I've known some of this since before Trump walked down that Escalator. Then January 6 happened and everything changed. When he won again I knew we were doomed.
Yes, the first time was his trial run. He had 4 years during the Biden administration to plan and get ready for Trump 2.0. Not to mention Project2025. But some of it did go on. Can't forget Russia, Russia, Russia. He's such an evil pos. Don't think I've ever hated anyone more. And I don't say that lightly.
I’m grateful that you and other scholars are documenting this historical period so carefully. It may be the last time anyone is able to do so for generations.
Thank you for making this post public, William. I will definitely share it and likely restack. It’s discouraging that your writing does not get much visibility, but it is encouraging that you are here and I look forward to reading more of your work.
For my part, I’m exploring what “getting out now” means. When to move assets overseas… when to at least get out of the country… when am I really in danger? My family members? When am I no longer willing to tolerate life in a dictatorship? When do I stop sharing openly about my life, my friends, my family and my political views? Obviously, these questions have different answers for all of us.
So it isn’t some binary thing, in or out. I love your analytical mind and framework and I look forward to exploring these topics with you, either just by reading your work or be engaging publicly or privately.
I invite you to subscribe to my substack, as well. My expertise is not in writing, but I have changed the world a couple times and I am hoping to do it again, in an even more disruptive way.
This is my first of your articles, and I appreciate your knowledge and perspective. However, I was distracted early in the article when you said that "Artificial Intelligence: Rapid AI advancements, particularly in military applications, pose new risks without proper regulation" was "thanks to Donald Trump."
It's not like there is a shortage of things a person could reasonably blame Trump for, but I can't see how he's responsible for the rise of AI after a month in office when LLMs have been 'a thing' for 2-3 years at least. This overreach makes me question your motivation, and weakens the entire article.

I was surprised that this crap didn't start during his first term. I guess there were enough adults in the room to hold his worst impulses back.

I’ve been saying the clock is ticking and we’ve almost lost the ability to shut it down. On Tyranny.

Am I missing a connection between Trump and AI?
